Jennifer Madden has a wealth of experience in capacity building, strategic planning, facilitation, training, and providing technical assistance to the nonprofit sector, the private sector, and government agencies. In addition to an extensive background in real estate development and project finance, Prof. Madden has expertise in economic development strategy, project management, research, and fund development.

Prof. Madden holds a Ph.D in management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, researching leadership competencies, management strategies, team interaction, and other fundamentals for designing and redesigning effective public-private partnerships to determine how collaborations can be designed and leveraged for innovation and rejuvenation, a concept Madden calls “Rejuvenative Innovation.” She is a Nonprofit Management Research Fellow, a Fowler Sustainability Fellow, a Management Design Fellow and a Carthage International Institute for Applied Research Fellow.

Prof. Madden holds a master’s degree in nonprofit management and bachelor’s degrees in economics and American studies from Case Western Reserve University. Teaching experience for Prof. Madden includes adjunct instructor at Case Western Reserve University and former full-time college lecturer at Cleveland State University in the Levin College of Urban Affairs.

Prior to joining Carthage, Prof. Madden served as President of Leverage Point Development Inc. an organization development, resource development, research, technical assistance, and capacity building consulting firm. She also held positions as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and director of finance for real estate development companies; a project manager for an economic development center; a community development officer for a community development bank; and executive director for a community-based nonprofit arts organization.

Like on TV, the entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of experts led by marketing professor J.J. Shields, who cut his shark teeth at Miller Brewing and ABB Robotics.

    • Carthage’s Velocity Consulting was the first 100% student-run full-service consulting agency in the country. Students gain incredible experience while providing marketing, branding, accounting, finance, and other support to regional clients. Other schools have since copied the Velocity model, including Harvard University.

    • Things look new at Carthage because they are. Our science center, student union, athletic and recreation center, and numerous residence halls have all been constructed or newly renovated in the last 15 years.

      Legend has it that Sesquicentennial Plaza holds a perfect echo. Just stand with both your feet on the “1847,” face Straz, and start talking. “You’re the only one who can hear you, but you’ll be crystal clear,” promises English and theatre alumna Mikaley Osley.

    • Our Great Lake provides Carthage students with some amazing views. Think classes on the beach, lake views from the lab, and sunrises from your dorm room. “I love waking up in the morning with the sun shining off the lake. Nothing compares to the view in the morning,” recalls biology and neuroscience major Ann O’Leary.
