Professor Malek Alkasrawi earned his MSc in biotechnology in 1998 and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering in 2004, both at Lund University in Lund, Sweden. Between 2004 and 2007, he worked as a postdoc at Lunds Institute of Technology at Lund University in the field of biosensor development and optimization. Prof. Alkasrawi worked in the biofuel industry in Europe for the period between 2007 and 2013.
In fall 2013, he joined the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point as chemical engineering faculty until 2020. In spring 2021, he joined the University of Wisconsin Parkside as an adjunct instructor. Prof. Alkasrawi joined Carthage College in fall 2021 as visiting associate professor in the Chemistry Department.
Prof. Malek Alkasrawi worked for more than 15 years in the biological conversion of organic biomass into gas and liquid biofuels. He was recently awarded an industrial assessment grant from the Department of Energy as co-applicant with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He was recently granted a patent that introduced a novel catalyst for biomass fabrication with help of WiSys technology and innovation.
