“I am lucky enough to be a part of the Urban Teacher Prep Program. This program allows students to start getting student teaching hours beginning freshman year. So by the time that I graduate, I will have double the amount of hours that a student who is not in the program would have.”

Career goal

“After I graduate from Carthage, I hope that I will become an elementary teacher. I would like to teach any grade level between 3rd and 7th grade.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“I have had many great professors that have helped me get to where I am today. Without their guidance, faith, and encouragement, I do not think I would have made it through these four years. They are continuously teaching me new information and inspiring me for my future.”

Campus involvement

“I played on the women’s soccer team for a couple of years.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“I am lucky enough to be a part of the Urban Teacher Prep Program. This program allows students to start getting student teaching hours beginning freshman year. So by the time that I graduate, I will have double the amount of hours that a student who is not in the program would have. This program is worth the time and effort that it takes.”

Scholarships

“I did receive a Carthage scholarship from the Education Department called the Patricia and Harold Brainard Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship meant a lot for my family and me. It made me proud of myself and all the work I have accomplished so far. Also, it helped lift some of the cost of going to college.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is hanging in my hammock next to the lake.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Other students should consider my major if they enjoy teaching youth and are good at speaking in front of crowds. Forward thinkers are the best for teaching the next generation. Some advice I have for anyone thinking about being in elementary education is that teaching is not for everyone and it is not as easy as it seems, but if you are passionate about it, it is definitely worth it.”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because I liked the small classroom sizes, the lake view, how friendly everyone is, and how great the education program is.”
