Patricia Rieman
Dr. Patty Rieman is an Associate Professor of Education at Carthage College. With her doctoral emphasis in Literacy Education, Dr. Rieman teaches several literacy education courses at Carthage for elementary education, special education, and content area/secondary education majors. Prior to her move to Carthage, Dr. Rieman lived in DeKalb, Illinois and taught several years at Northern Illinois University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Special Education/Social-Emotional Disorders and her Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction/Literacy Education. With her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa, Dr. Rieman spent her early years teaching special education in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In her free time, Dr. Rieman is a social justice activist who belongs to such groups as CUSH, Coalition for Dismantling Racism, and Olympia Brown UU Church Social Justice Committee. Dr. Rieman is proud to have earned certification at Carthage College as both a Safe Zone Ally and an Equity Warrior.
In addition to her work and volunteerism in Kenosha, Dr. Rieman is also a Teacher Trainer for Population Education (populationeducation.org) and also recently earned certification as a facilitator for Community Action Poverty Simulations (http://www.povertysimulation.net/about/). In May 2018 Dr. Rieman was presented a Distinguished Leadership in Education Award from the Racine Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.
Brief Bio
Professor Patricia Rieman holds degrees in special education and curriculum and instruction, and was a special education teacher for more than 15 years in Oklahoma and Illinois. She teaches courses in education and society, characteristics of exceptional learners, and reading and language arts.
