Gloria Cairo married her high school sweetheart and feels grateful every day to be married to Steve. Together they have three children. While she insisted as an 18-year-old that she’d never stay in Kenosha, she is so glad it has always been and is still her hometown.
After graduating from Tremper High School, Gloria ventured out to Hope College in Michigan (the other side of Lake Michigan!) and then off to learn from life itself in Hawaii, the Philippines, and Malaysia with a volunteer organization called YWAM (Youth with a Mission). There, she grew in her Christian faith and made lifelong friends.
Gloria returned to Kenosha to continue her education at UW-Parkside. When close friends invited her to come work at their start-up business for her first job as an administrative assistant, Gloria leapt at the chance to be a part of something innovative with people who are like family. Community is so important to her.
Gloria continued to work for them until they could no longer employ her. It was at that time when a role in administrative assistance became available at Living Light School of Worship. She was again invited to come to be a part of the vocational school for both spiritual and music training. She was able to support the directors, students from all over the world, staff, alumni, and prospective students for the next 13 years. Gloria’s family also loved hosting students for the school year from Germany, England, and the United States.
After multiple tours exploring Carthage as a prospective college for their children, Gloria was reminded again of the community aspect that is very evident at Carthage College and how much she’d love to be a part of it. Soon after, Gloria applied to the administrative assistant position with the Office of Residential Life, and is so happy to now be here and do her part to make this a warm and welcoming place to be.

Favorite thing about working at Carthage
“Seeing and personally experiencing the supportiveness of others is my favorite thing about working at Carthage. To hear there is an on-campus tradition of holding the door for others was one thing, but to have door after door opened for me has been another and is so special about this community. I also must add that getting to enjoy the beauty of the lake every day will forever be a favorite!”
“Walks with my husband, unhurried time at home gathering and laughing with my family, staying closely connected with my extended family and friends, reading, adding to my gratitude list, getting outdoors, nighttime Target runs, blasting a playlist on-the-go, homemade baked goods, and decaf mochas in a mug.”
