The Republic of Senegal is one of the region’s most developed and friendly nations. It won independence in 1960 after more than a century of French colonial rule. Now one of the most democratic countries in West Africa it has a population of nearly 15 million. Dakar, the political and economic capital, is a vibrant, port city and a prime spot to explore Senegalese culture and language.

French is the official language, Wolof the predominant language and ninety-four percent of Senegalese are Muslims.

This course is designed to offer the students a uniquely immersive experience. Students will be able to learn French at the students’ level and basic Wolof – a sub-Saharan language – while they delve into African studies. They will also explore the city and beyond, experiencing family traditions firsthand in order to have a remarkable experience.
