Give three words that sum up your internship experience.
Confidence-building, Challenging, Influential
How did you learn about your internship?
“I learned about this internship through the Career Center. An email that was sent by Jason Pruitt with the job description sparked my interest.”
Describe your internship.
“My internship involved a variety of projects and tasks, allowing me to explore many different aspects of business. I learned about Human Resources by helping re-write and update job descriptions and training documentation. I also practiced project management by leading a project to plan for the renovation of several conference rooms in the facility. This involved cost analysis, communication with vendors, and several presentations to management. Another aspect of my internship included training employees on using new software and programs.”
What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?
“The relationships I gained through this internship were the most enjoyable part of the experience for me. I met some great mentors who gave helpful advice in regards to possible career paths and necessary skills for thriving in a professional environment. Because of this, my internship provided many chances for networking and professional development.
I also enjoyed the amount of responsibility I was given through this internship. It was exciting to have the freedom to take the lead on projects and be proactive in making decisions that would impact the organization’s finances and processes. This internship was a rewarding experience, as I was able to see final projects coming together as a result of the plans I had made. Being in this position also challenged me to apply classroom skills to actual business situations and projects.”
How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?
“Through this internship, I was exposed to several aspects of business including finances, project management, and Human Resources. Ideally, I want to pursue a career in Human Resources and will definitely apply the skills and knowledge I have learned in my internship to future jobs.”
During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?
“I worked with the Career Center to create a polished resume and cover letter that focused on personal characteristics and skill sets I possess that were applicable to the job. I also highlighted involvement in activities outside of the classroom that have aided in my leadership and organizational skills. The Career Center served as a valuable resource for interviewing information and practice, as well. All of these things helped me to market myself to potential employers.”
What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?
“Talking one-on-one with the Career Center regarding Carthage alumni and contacts was extremely helpful. They are so knowledgeable about the job search process and willing to help students each step of the way.”
Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?
