Career goal

“After graduation, I plan to pursue a job as an art therapist. I want to use both of my degrees to contribute to the development and improvement of a person’s well-being.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“Carthage faculty provided me with a variety of connections to help me pursue my future career and life goals. My relationship with faculty has helped me succeed because of their motivation and support.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage thus far has been Introduction to Three-Dimensional Design. This class has opened up the realm of art to me personally, and throughout this course, I was able to learn how to express myself through my art in creative ways.”

Campus involvement

“I’m involved in the Black Student Union and Kappa Pi. Being a part of these clubs gave me a sense of belonging. In addition, I take part in intramural sports and other campus activities.”

Toughest class

“The toughest class for me has been Research Methods and Statistics I. I would say it was the toughest because I was not able to grasp the material.”

Scholarships

“I received the 150 Years of Carthage Women Annual Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship has meant a lot to me. I have been relieved from a financial burden and able to focus on my studies more.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

“Some of my favorite Carthage memories are the Carthage Activities Board Bingo nights, Homecoming weekend, and the welcoming carnival.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is The Tower. It has a nice lounge area to do homework, eat, and hang out with friends.”

Biggest surprise so far

“The biggest surprise so far has been how involved the community is with events on campus.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“At the age of 8, I started to discover my passion for art and noticed that I was pretty decent at it. So, I would say my 8-year-old self would not only be pleased with my career choice, but also proud of how far I came.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“I believe that other students should explore studio art and psychology as majors if they are creative and passionate about art, and if they are interested in learning about human behavior and brain processes. My advice would be to ask questions and develop a personal relationship with professors to better understand curriculum.”

Why Carthage?

“I selected Carthage because I did’t want to be seen as just another student at an institution. At this smaller college, I am able to form personal bonds with my classmates. And, with fewer classes and a curriculum based on the humanities, arts, social sciences, and scientific sciences, I am able to acquire a superior education.”
