Give three words that sum up your internship experience.
Challenging, Comprehensive, Beneficial
How did you learn about your internship?
“I signed up for the internship and Career Services went the extra mile to send out a few emails on my behalf and I got about three or four calls within two weeks from companies interested. I decided on Grover because they were a small company that I knew I could help and learn more than just the job I was going to be working.”
Describe your internship.
“I work two full days per week, where I purchase raw materials for the company. I purchase raw materials such as steel, iron and bronze. Other than that, I take part in organizing their system they use and helping out with a wide variety of projects that my supervisor has for me.”
What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?
“I enjoy working two full days per week because it gives me a good head start of everyone else that is sleeping in every day their senior year. I found it very difficult to learn the system they use since it is very old and different from any systems I’ve ever been involved with.”
How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?
“This fits with my long-term goals because I want to work for a large company straight out of college for a few years and then slowly transition into a smaller company because I want to be able to exert my knowledge on the small to middle sized companies that are such an important part to our economy.”
During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?
“I stood out by always getting my work done on time and never making the same mistake twice. If I messed up, I asked questions to ensure that I would not make that mistake again. If I did make a mistake, I owned up to it before it became a problem and made sure it didn’t get out of hand.”
What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?
“Career Services went the extra mile to help me out and made sure that I had offers from multiple companies. Their team was dedicated and really cared about each step of the process for the grant.”
Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?
“This was a great experience and it will be very beneficial to you if you can find an internship within your major. It gives you great insight of whether or not you want go into a career similar to your internship. I would highly recommend taking advantage of this incredible program, especially if you are a senior.”
