Give three words that sum up your internship experience.
Challenging, Creative, Rewarding
How did you learn about your internship?
“When I was searching for an internship this semester, I was hoping to find a company that challenged me and pushed me into an industry I knew little about. I wanted to implement the theories and concepts I learned in class into a real-world experience.”
Describe your internship.
“As the Social Media Management Intern, I develop and manage online marketing campaigns to effectively drive brand awareness, brand engagement, and traffic to social media pages.”
What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?
“I enjoy working with the different people. Everyone at Berkshire Hathaway is very good at completing their individual tasks, but come together to make a friendly and jovial community.”
How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?
“My internship challenged me to learn about an industry I was not familiar with. As I move forward in my career, I anticipate changing directions to further develop my skill set. This internship allowed me to explore an industry I was not initially knowledgeable about, but I was able to grow and learn throughout my time at Berkshire.”
During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?
“When I was brought in for an initial interview, I was very excited to learn about a new industry. I knew the name Berkshire Hathaway carried tremendous weight, so I was hoping to make a really good impression. I had my resume reviewed in Career Services, I practiced interview questions, and I wanted to make a great first impression.”
What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?
“I think having multiple copies of my resume was extremely helpful. Each job description requires the applicant to have a specific set of responsibilities, so I was able to highlight different skill sets for a particular job.”
Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?
“Completing an internship is an invaluable tool when applying for potential jobs. Internship experiences will help a student develop skills learned in the classroom. It is pivotal to experience the concept of ‘education, application, and determination.’ What students learn in the classroom is applied in internships, but this cannot be done without the determination to succeed.”
