Jen Fournier Quinn ’06 attributes her successful career to the skills she developed at Carthage. It was through courses with Professor Art Cyr and Professor Brent McClintock that Ms. Quinn’s passion for economics and political science history grew. Post-graduation, she turned her passion into a career.
As sales manager for Uline, she oversees a regional team and the company’s development of the national government sales program. Her responsibilities include negotiation of supply contracts with the Department of Defense and implementation of sales programs with the U.S. Government
These days, Ms. Quinn’s career takes her throughout the U.S. to meet with various companies and federal government entities. Wherever Ms. Quinn travels, she is reminded of the impact that Carthage’s IPE program continues to have on her.
What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“Traveling all over the U.S. to meet with many different companies and federal government entities. It has helped educate me in many different areas like contract management, negotiation, sales, marketing, and finance.”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“My experience at Carthage with writing and presentations was the best preparation for my transition into corporate management. It helped put me ahead of my peers who attended larger schools and did not have the writing and speaking skills.”
How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?
“Over the years, I have worked with various Department of Defense customers to help negotiate supply contracts. My critical thinking skills and presentation skills I learned at Carthage helped me successfully create and implement these sales programs with the U.S. Government.”
What's your favorite Carthage memory?
“Carthage was an amazing experience with both the IPE program and my four years swimming for the Firebirds. The small class size throughout IPE helped me develop my communication and critical thinking skills. I still remember the classes with Prof. Cyr talking about Hans Morgenthau. Swimming helped me stay competitive and gave me great memories and friends.”
Tips for current Carthage students?
“Be passionate about what you are learning and be proactive in class. This helped me in my career with being comfortable writing, speaking to my peers, and management in a group setting.”
