What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“I have been in Higher Education for 12 years. I enjoy the opportunity to engage with undergraduate students in ways that enhance their individual identity development. Personal development is essential to one’s growth. I am fortunate that I am able to contribute my knowledge through my role as an educator to young men and women across the U.S. and abroad.”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“I was a very active student leader and athlete during my time at Carthage. Being involved in extracurricular activities provided me with the necessary skill-set to be successful in engaging with others, creating opportunities that enhanced my personal career development but most importantly the development of my grit to overcome obstacles both personally and professionally.”
How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?
“I spent six consecutive years on a Board of Directors for a professional association that was charged with providing its members with meaningful professional development/growth opportunities. For two of the six years, I served as the president during one of the most pressing times in higher education. A new policy surrounding the handling of high-risk behaviors in college was being proposed and the members of the organization had varying points of view that were often opposed to each other. I had to learn the importance of effective communication, the need for a well thought out strategy and the importance of teamwork to get the job done. It was the most trying point in my career. I am fortunate that I learned these skills as a student while serving in multiple student leader roles, particularly as a resident assistant.”
