Jes Adams, ’08

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“The variety. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many different types of people and locations over the years. It’s always exciting to be able to use past lessons to better help my current client. Plus, I inevitably leave every project with more knowledge to bring forth into my upcoming assignments.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Being forced to try new things. I can’t say that I would have voluntarily signed up for some of the required courses at Carthage, but having to take classes that were not my preference better set me up for day-to-day life at work, as well as find my job. I came into Carthage, like many science majors looking toward medicine as a career. And even though I’m not a physician, I impact the lives of physicians, nurses, and patients through my work. It all started by taking a ‘starter job’ instead of going to med school. The idea of jumping into a career and taking a break from med school was something that never would have crossed my mind before opening my horizon to studies outside of the hard sciences.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Keep your eyes open for new opportunities. It’s great to have plans and dreams, but I’ve found that many times, it’s the things you don’t plan that turn into amazing opportunities to reach new and even more exciting dreams. Going into Carthage I would have never guessed I would be doing what I do now, and at the same time I can’t imagine my life any other way.”
