Amy Goldsmith ’19 believes that all students should take advantage of the opportunities at Carthage, such as internships, research programs, teaching opportunities, and oversea trips because they gave her unique hands-on experience. Ms. Goldsmith uses the skills she gained from Carthage programs at her current job as a Spanish teacher at Bradford High School in Kenosha.
What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“The best part of teaching by far is the connections that are formed with the students. There is never a dull moment, and the kids are constantly making me laugh. What is most rewarding is seeing how the students become their own individuals, each of them forming their own opinions and pursuing their unique passions. While other careers may take years to see a payoff, teaching provides the opportunity to celebrate successes constantly.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?
“Writing and presenting my thesis is something I will always remember. Spending an entire semester dedicated to a single topic taught me how to take complete ownership over my learning. It was fun getting to use my liberal arts skills to explore my major in a unique direction that was completely my own.”
