As an American Model United Nations Best Delegate Award winner, Logan Frank ’17 can’t think of a better organization to be a part of than the Model United Nations (MUN) at Carthage. MUN not only provided him opportunities like studying abroad, but it also helped him develop invaluable skills.
“Carthage MUN is a tremendous organization that helped me hone my public speaking and interpersonal skills while also being a ton of fun! One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t join until my junior year.”
Today, Mr. Frank supports Bunzl Retail Services’ global import and export operations as a Trade Compliance Analyst.
What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“I love identifying risk points within our operations and then working to develop and implement a solution for the organization. It is very satisfying to be able to look back and see how I’ve had a real impact within my company. This is especially true when it has made people’s lives easier!”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“Carthage really emphasized critical thinking as well as taking an interdisciplinary approach to understanding issues. This was especially true within the International Political Economy program and in the Carthage Symposium courses. It’s pretty rare to come across a problem that is one-dimensional, so developing these skills is critical.”
How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?
“My liberal arts education and the soft skills that I honed at Carthage is what empowered me to successfully tackle challenges I’ve encountered in my current position. I’ve had to quickly learn about a lot of topics outside my area of focus and work with people from a variety of cultures and perspectives to ensure the success of the company.”
What's your favorite Carthage memory?
“I have a lot of great memories from Carthage, but my experience with MUN definitely sticks out. Carthage MUN is a tremendous organization that helped me hone my public speaking and interpersonal skills while also being a ton of fun! One of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t join until my junior year. There is a wide variety of topics to learn about in MUN, and it provides experiences that are valuable regardless of your major.”
Tips for current Carthage students?
“Look for opportunities everywhere, build relationships with your professors, and always be willing to try new experiences. I never thought I would be a MUN participant, but I was eventually talked into trying it by Professor Jeffrey Roberg and absolutely loved it. I was fortunate enough go to Japan for free due to Carthage’s partnership with the Kakehashi program. I also traveled to Scotland for almost free thanks to MUN.”
