What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“What I enjoy most about my career is the relationships I form with my students and their families. I have been at my school for almost six years and have taught multiple students from the same family.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Carthage exposed me to different cultures and ways of thinking. The College also pushed me as a person to be more assertive and confident in who I am, which is so important in teaching.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage for the small class sizes, the attention to the whole student as a person and not just a number, and the caring community.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“Carthage allowed me to travel to the Caribbean for J-Term with Professor Yuri Maltsev and other students. For dance, I presented an original piece in Madison at ACDFA. I was also a member of Phi Alpha Theta, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Alpha Chi Omega, and the Model United Nations. With the Model UN, I got to travel to the United Nations and meet with the ambassador from the Central African Republic.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Several Carthage professors contributed to my success at Carthage. Professor Stephanie Mitchell showed me that women can be confident, powerful forces in their careers. Professor Stephen Udry was my advisor and supported me when I was unsure about the path I was seeking in college. Professor Eric Pullin was my thesis advisor and helped me see the bigger picture when I was knee deep in research. Professor Stacy Pottinger was a guiding force in my dance career and showed me that dancers can come in any form — it’s about loving the art that is important.”

Were you an award recipient? If so, tell us about the awards you received and what they meant to you.

“I was a Clausen Scholar, which meant I received a Presidential Scholarship that paid for a full year of my tuition. I also graduated Magna Cum Laude and received departmental honors in history and IPE.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“Growing up, I was unsure, quiet, and timid. After Carthage, I was confident in who I was and more assertive about what I wanted in life. Carthage gave me an inner strength that has allowed me to face and conquer challenges personally and professionally.”
