Why Carthage?

“I wanted to attend a liberal arts education at a small school that offered the majors I was interested in and emphasized the importance of study abroad.”

Faculty mentors

“I have really amazing relationships with my professors. They care so much about my success and go to great lengths to help me achieve my goals. Professors Erik Johnson, Ron Cronovich, Pascal Rollet, and Erik Kulke have given me integral advice on my career path.”

Favorite class

“Economics of Poverty and Income Inequality was a class that really opened my eyes to the causes of many key societal problems.”

Toughest class

French classes are tough. It includes all the work of your other classes, but you have to do it all in another language. If you can push yourself through it, though, there is a huge payoff.”

Campus involvement

“I’ve been on the Blitz Ultimate Frisbee Team since my freshman year. It is such a fun game, and it has brought me so much joy and helped me manage the stress of classes. I’ve also participated in Philosophy Club, which is a great place to have deep discussions.”

Golden opportunities

“I went on a J-Term study tour to Costa Rica to learn Spanish my sophomore year. It’s such a beautiful country, and everyone in our group had an amazing experience. Next year, I am studying abroad in Senegal for an entire year!

“I also got a grant to work on a Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project in the field of economics.”

Internships or campus employment

“I was an economics tutor my sophomore year and transitioned into being the outreach coordinator for the Tutoring Center. I am also a sustainability intern, so I get to work on projects to make our campus more sustainable.”

Career goal

“I’m interested in working in the field of international sustainable development.”

Favorite spot on campus

“The red cushy chairs by the windows in the back of the David A. Straz Jr. Center are the best.”
