Women in Aviation Announcement of Opportunity 2024

Awards

$3,000*: Scholarship funds support travel (transportation, lodging, meals, and registration for attendance) to the Women in Aviation International Conference in Orlando, FL, on March 21-23, 2024.
* Subject to availability of funds.

Purpose

Scholarships to support three outstanding female undergraduate students interested in aviation-related careers.

To Apply:

  • CREATE a NASA STEM GATEWAY account nasa.gov/public/s/login/
    (applicants will be required to update profile information annually).
  • CREATE a WSGC account carthage.edu/about/login/
    (applicants will be required to update profile information annually).
  • Sign into your WSGC account and submit an application/supporting documents to the WOMEN IN AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP funding program https://spacegrant.carthage.edu/forms/account/login/ (applicants may apply to multiple funding programs).

Application Requirements:

Applicants who meet the following requirements can apply for the WOMEN IN AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP:

  • U.S. citizen
  • WI resident during academic year
  • Enrolled full-time in, admitted to, or applied to any undergraduate program at a WSGC college or university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (Proposals that include a GPA of less than 3.0 will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
  • Completed application online (see Supporting Materials Required with Application below)

Award winners will be selected based on academic performance, STEM-related promise, and the demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in STEM//aviation. For consideration, the application form must be complete and be accompanied by supporting documentation.

Current and Past Recipients

Supporting Materials Required with Application:

  1. Maximum two-page statement containing the following (See Tools & Tips for more information on how to create professional communications):
      1. Interest in aviation.
      2. Experience in aviation (coursework, pilot training, etc.).
      3. Benefit of attending the 2024 Women in Aviation conference.
      4. Future plans to participate in aviation as a career, hobby, etc.
    1. Copy of most recent college transcript (unofficial is acceptable/not required for incoming freshmen)
    2. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Letter(s) of recommendation may be submitted with the online application. Confidential letter(s) of recommendation may be emailed to spacegrant@carthage.edu. Subject: WAI24
      1. One from a faculty member who advises the applicant
      2. One from an aviation mentor.

Award Acceptance Components:

As part of the award acceptance, awardees will be asked to attend the Annual Wisconsin Space Conference in August 2024 and submit the following documents on the WSGC application website under Program Applications/Your Applications:

  • Award Agreement Letter
  • W9
  • Media Release Form
  • One-Paragraph Biography
  • Professional Photo
  • 2-3 Project Photos Featuring Awardee w/Project
  • Present program at the Annual Wisconsin Space Conference in August
  • Student Story

This funding opportunity is made available for the pursuit of space-related research and/or activities through the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program: NASA Educational Cooperative Agreement #80NSSC20M0123. All awards are fully competitive awards of opportunity in which applications are reviewed by the WSGC Technical Advisory Panel and other experts as needed. Awards are made by the Assistant Director based on recommendations from the Associate Director.
