    Martha Gutierrez is an adjunct faculty member of Carthage’s Master of Education program and executive director of human resources for Woodland School District 50 in Gurnee, Ill.

    Ms. Gutierrez has over 27 years of human resource management experience — the last 18 years have been in the public school arena. She has notable experience in strategic human resource planning, performance management, staffing, federal and state law compliance, employment contract negotiations, employee benefits, compensation and payroll, training and development, and management coaching.

    She holds a Master of Arts in Instructional Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communication with a support in Business and Management from Alverno College. She has worked with the prestigious National Multi-Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C. to become a master-level trainer in cultural competency. As an adjunct professor at Carthage, she teaches School Law, a graduate level course.

    Ms. Gutierrez is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management with a professional human resources designation/certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute. She is also a member of the Illinois Association of School Personnel Administrators, the American Association of School Personnel Administrators, and the Illinois Association of School Boards. Through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, she received certification as a professional coach and as an energy leadership index master practitioner.

    Ms. Gutierrez utilizes the Energy Leadership Index Assessment™, which helps individuals understand how their energy affects their engagement in life and how they “show up” in their life. She works with professionals who are in leadership roles in public education and who are looking to understand the strategies they can employ to balance themselves between their personal life and their work life so that they can be more effective in their leadership role.
