Biography

Kelly Smith has served in a variety of direct service and administrative roles in counseling and student/academic affairs over the last 15 years. Most recently, she was an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the clinical mental health program at a small private college in Milwaukee. Her direct counseling experiences include working with diverse individuals engaged in community mental health, domestic and sexual violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and college counseling services.

Administratively, she has served as an Assistant Clinical Director for a community mental health clinic, Director of Abuse Intervention Services at a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault center, and as a Director of First- and Second-Year Experience at a medium-sized public university. She has also worked with orientation, as a hall director, and as a “House Mom” at a social sorority. She is a Past President of the Wisconsin Counseling Association and co-founder of the Midwest First-Year Conference a not-for-profit organization that provides professional development opportunities for individuals working with first-year students and students in transition.

Kelly believes in the uniqueness of each individual’s experience and is committed to helping students successfully reach their goals during their time at Carthage College through their positive interactions with the Health and Counseling Center.

Main responsibilities at Carthage

Kelly provides oversight to the Health and Counseling Center. She provides direct counseling services and oversees programmatic and psychoeducation opportunities related to health and wellness.

Favorite thing about working at Carthage

Kelly most enjoys Carthage’s commitment to students’ holistic short- and long-term success as a result of attending the College. The atmosphere is friendly and appropriately challenging and supportive!

Other interests?

Kelly is a southeastern Wisconsin native who enjoys spending time with her family and engaging in community events. She enjoys going for walks, playing games, and being creative.
