Career goal

“After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in elementary physical education, as well as coaching.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“My advisor, Rebekah Johnson, has had a great positive impact on my college experience. She motivates all her students and makes them excited for their futures. She is always accommodating to her students’ needs and sets them up to be as successful as she can. She is one of the most selfless and supportive people I have ever met. She is the epitome of a perfect role model, and I look up to her so much.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage was Adapted PE Field Placement I took during my junior year J-Term. Throughout the whole month, I shadowed an adapted physical educator. I observed how they involved students with disabilities in the general PE classes, and then I worked with the students myself. I also had the opportunity to meet many educators within the Kenosha Unified School District and learn from them.”

Campus involvement

“On campus, I am involved with the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, I am a student ambassador, and I am a part of the Association of Carthage Education Students.”

Internships or on-campus employment

“I am the 2022-23 school year EXSS Department assistant. I work closely with the department staff by assisting them with different projects and class materials, running social media, and keeping our equipment organized. I am also a campus recreation associate in the TARC. I manage and rent out equipment and oversee the Semler Fitness Center.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“I had the opportunity to attend and present at the Wisconsin Health and Physical Education Conference in the Wisconsin Dells, as well as the Coaches Conference at East Tennessee State University. Both of these opportunities helped better prepare me and made me feel more confident as I move toward student teaching and finding a job post-graduation. It was also a great opportunity to network with professionals from around the country and learn from their experiences.”

Scholarships

“I received the Founders Scholarship at Carthage, as well as a Faculty Honors Scholarship my senior year. Receiving both of these scholarships has meant a lot by showing me that my hard work had paid off.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

Lake Michigan sunrises, Homecoming, sporting events, events with my AXO sisters, and making lifelong relationships.”

Favorite spot on campus

“The TARC.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Students should consider the exercise and sports science major if they are interested in physical activity, health/fitness, and sport. This major helps prepare future physical and health educators, fitness instructors, coaches, and more. You will also have some classes with future physical therapists and athletic trainers. It is great to have classes with students with whom you share similar interests but have chosen different paths. You get to learn from each other and gain perspectives from those pursuing different but similar careers.”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage for the small school size and the feel of the community. I really liked the exercise and sport science program and the well-rounded education that Carthage had to offer. Plus, the views are breathtaking.”
