What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“At Abbott, I have gained an appreciation for creating and maintaining accurate financial models. The ability to take current data and use it in a way to accurately forecast future spend is an extremely valuable skill.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Carthage does an excellent job of setting its students up for success by creating an environment of learning and curiosity. No matter what career a student enters after their time at Carthage, they will walk into their first job having already learned the skill of curiosity. With this skill comes the ability to ask high-quality questions and find answers to complex problems, both independently and through collaboration with others.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“The initiative I am most proud of from my time at Carthage was hands-down pioneering the first Carthage/Parkside Sustainability Summit. This event took place in April 2022 after months of hard work and planning in the prior months. The idea for this event arose through the valuable discussions that we would have during my time working on the Sustainability Task Force and with the sustainability interns. After having the idea, it took a wide variety of key financial stakeholders, speakers, event planners, and marketing avenues to make this event a success. The most rewarding part of this endeavor was seeing seven other Carthage students rally around the idea and bring it to life. The teamwork and collaboration required to put this event on is something I will remember for the rest of my career.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the close-knit community and high-achieving culture.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“I credit a portion of my success to Professor Carter Rockhill, Professor Chao Zheng, and the faculty/staff on the Sustainability Task Force. They pushed me to grow in my learning and to take action on numerous occasions.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“Carthage has taught me the value of authenticity, truthfulness, and positive change. I will carry these values with me everywhere.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“I will always remember going to Boston for a conference with other Carthage Business Book Club members. Carthage showed me my passion for taking ideas that have a positive impact and bringing them to life.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“My tip to current students would be to get very involved in your short time at Carthage. The relationships and opportunities that come from taking action in student organizations will be with you throughout the rest of your career.”
