What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“My love of storytelling and making a positive difference led me down a path in broadcast journalism. Following my passion allowed me to see success quickly, and I went from a weekend anchor to the main evening anchor in less than two years.

“I also successfully interviewed at Fox News Channel, where I had to make the hard decision of giving up the rare stability that I found in the industry for a job that would require me to live out of a suitcase, go back to working crazy hours, and take a pay cut. Ultimately, I made a decision that best aligned with my personal values, which have always served as my North Star. While in journalism, I uncovered injustices through investigations and pressed presidential candidates on their campaign promises and voting records.

“Now, I get to see my passion for storytelling and people play out in the corporate environment, where I take pride in the positive difference I can make on the overall success of a company.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“At Carthage, I learned how to achieve balance in preparation for the real world. Through several philosophy classes, I learned how to challenge my way of thinking and see the world through several different lenses. Those courses have helped me hone my critical thinking skills.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“Aside from scholarship opportunities, Carthage fit me as a person. I wanted a well-rounded liberal arts education and a place where I could foster my faith. Carthage also gave me the opportunity to swim while balancing my academics. Moreover, the lakeside campus made my decision to commit even easier.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“I was a member of the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honors Association, director of business for Students In Free Enterprise, a NCAA college swimmer, a part of the public relations committee, and participant in the study abroad program in Australia. I was also selected to speak at a Carthage leadership conference.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Faculty members were incredibly supportive and attentive — offering one-on-one attention to ensure my personal success.”
