Lauren Bischel, ’09

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I love problem-solving and learning new things, which is what led me to pursue my degree in physics and then graduate school after that. My current role provides opportunities to do both every day.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“As an undecided student, Carthage encouraged exposure to multiple disciplines through their liberal arts focus and opportunities like J-Term. I decided to pursue a physics major after a J-Term class. Carthage’s small class sizes also made it possible to get to know my professors, who were able to provide guidance on future career paths to help me combine my interests in physics and biology.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“Communication with regulatory agencies with limited product background is a regular occurrence in my field. Liberal arts skills like being able to communicate and document technical information so that audiences from a variety of backgrounds can easily understand is very important.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“There were so many opportunities to be involved in activities (swim team and music lessons), which helped me grow in other areas and meet life-long friends.”
