What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“Teaching has been a joy within itself. Yes, there are days when I would rather be somewhere else besides my classroom, but I would not trade it for anything. Students labeled as the ‘most difficult’ tend to be my favorite type of students. They allow me to work with them so they can be better.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“Obtaining a liberal arts education has allowed me to attack my problems from multiple perspectives, think critically before making important decisions, and learn how to communicate appropriately in professional prestige.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the small classes and future opportunities. Since graduating from Carthage, I have been presented with numerous opportunities that can drive my professional career forward.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“My relationships with professors Siovahn Williams, Katherine Hilson, and Michelle Hancock drove me to success. All three outstanding women have shown me what success looks like when you are outnumbered. I am in the same position now; being African American in predominately caucasian institutions makes us stand out, which can be positive or negative. They have guided me in how to be successful.”

Were you an award recipient? If so, tell us about the awards you received and what they meant to you.

“I was a recipient of the Wiggan-Kenniebrew Scholarship and the ACT/M.Ed. Scholarship.”
