What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“Although I am not working quite yet, I am really enjoying the opportunity to further my education at an advanced level and with a new group of students who have similar goals in mind. After just one semester of graduate school, we were sent out on our first clinical experience to work with patients in an acute care setting, and I was able to travel to Boulder, Colo. to experience it!”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“My education at Carthage, especially within the Athletic Training Program, prepared me greatly for my current education at the graduate level. The high standards, clinical opportunities, and amazing professors and athletic trainers helped me to hone my skills and learn valuable critical thinking skills that will follow me throughout the entirety of my health care career.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“Throughout my four years at Carthage, hands-on learning was at the forefront of my education. Personally, I have always learned best by experiencing things hands on and in real-life situations — luckily for me, the Athletic Training Program greatly emphasizes this, which allowed me to be successful throughout my time at Carthage.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“All members of the Athletic Training Program, from the professors to the ATCs, played a crucial role in my success throughout the program. Professors Laurie Jensen, Dan Ruffner, and Ashley Greenwood were great mentors in the classroom; while athletic trainers Jake Dinauer, Haley McClain, Sam Saalfeld, and all the other ATCs helped me apply my skills during athlete injury evaluations on the sidelines and in the athletic training room, which not only prepared me to work as an athletic trainer, but gave me a head start in my physical therapy education. I am extremely grateful for all of the individuals who I have encountered in the athletic training room because they helped to shape me into the health care provider I am today.”
