“I chose Carthage because I wanted to be more than a number and truly make an impact in a college community.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Definitely the array of organizations available. I dove in head first when I was a freshman and got involved in 10+ organizations. A year later, I decided to only keep my spot in a few, so I could really focus and make an impact within those organizations.

“I learned different skills from each club. In Future of Africa, I learned empathy and fundraising skills. In Business Book Club, I learned communication and curiosity. In the Carthage Dance Team, I learned hard work and dedication. In Chi Omega, I learned teamwork and sisterhood. In Pi Sigma Epsilon, I learned leadership and professionalism. The culmination of these skills truly made me the employee, sister, woman, friend, and human I am today.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“Having the ability to contribute in a small-class setting, like what is available at Carthage, was beyond beneficial in my professional life. As an intern at Kohler Co., I had the opportunity to participate in a behavioral interviewing competition called ‘Top Gun.’ It was held by various sales executives within the company who were training for senior leadership positions. Due to my experience at Carthage, constantly getting exposure to speaking in group settings, I was extremely comfortable talking about myself and my abilities within an interview scenario. This led me to become the top interviewee and ultimately led to the job offer I received from Kohler!”

Were you an award recipient? If so, tell us about the awards you received and what they meant to you.

“I was named the Outstanding Marketing Senior of the Year (top marketing graduate in my class), and I received the Gold Leadership Award and Silver Leadership Award.”
