One of the reasons Jack Racanelli ’23 chose to attend Carthage was because of the support faculty members in the Chemistry Department showed to their students. He believes his professors were essential in helping him get accepted into dental school. Mr. Racanelli is now working toward a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out for advice. Whether it be related to your personal life, or to school, there are so many people at Carthage who have experiences similar to yours and who are willing to help.”

Jack Racanelli, ’23

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I am currently in my D1 year, which means I am taking a lot of my didactic classes. I am really looking forward to transitioning more toward lab classes in my D2 year and then into the clinic in my D3 and D4 years.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“The combination of the small class sizes and the ability for me to compete on the swim team were huge factors for me when it came to deciding on where to go for college. When it became clear to me that the faculty in the Chemistry Department were so invested in their student’s college journeys, it made the decision a no-brainer!”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“All of the faculty in the Chemistry Department were essential in getting me to where I am today. They showed their care for me both in and out of the classroom and provided so much guidance when it came to getting prepared for dental school.”
