“I chose Carthage because of the immense amount of connections you can gain through school-sponsored events.”

Why Carthage?

“The dedicated, easily accessible professors create a learning environment like no other. Additionally, it is a beautiful campus placed between two cities full of opportunity.”

Faculty mentors

“Carthage faculty are very dedicated; they are mentors who eventually become lifelong connections. I have had the pleasure of getting close to multiple professors, and they have been key motivators for not only my college career, but my for my career after college.”

Favorite class

“My favorite course is one of my fundamental classes for management; it has by far been one of my favorite classes. It’s a class in which I have made a genuine connection with every single peer as well as the professor.”

Toughest class

“I’d say my toughest class that I’ve taken would have to be Financial Accounting during J-Term. I ended up getting a pretty solid grade in that class, but the way I was pushed in that class was very challenging and ended up being a great lesson. It was an accelerated course that made you think critically and do so in a timely manner.”

Internships or campus employment

“I actually had a great early internship opportunity the summer before attending Carthage. It was at Keystone RV, where I was a finance exploration intern who helped with mid-year inventory and auditing, as well as projects in different fields. It was an awesome experience that I was very honored to get.”

“At Carthage, I am a career ambassador at The Aspire Center, where I help put on programs to help with career/internship search and do resume and cover letter reviews.”

Career goal

“I hope to go into the finance management field and someday work my way up to become a COO or CFO of a company that holds similar values that I have.”

Favorite spot on campus

“I would have to say my personal favorite spot is the seating area behind the Denhart Hall volleyball court. It has a perfect view of the lake and is a nice place to stop and call back home, do your homework, and even hang out with some friends.”

Biggest surprise

“The biggest surprise about coming to Carthage is how personable everyone here is. You are genuinely able to walk down the main street to class and have a good conversation with anyone. It is a very friendly campus that embraces everyone, despite the differences there may be.”

Advice for other students in your major?

“Triple majoring can look very daunting from a glance, but Carthage has made it very obtainable. Finance is my primary major, and I believe that if you’re interested in not only numbers, but also in trying to predict future events, go for it. If it’s not for you, you can try one of the other 75+ areas of study.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“I’d hope that my 8-year-old self would be unbelievably proud and maybe even shocked that, despite the circumstances he was given, he still was able to attend college. My 8-year-old self probably wouldn’t know what being a financial analyst is, but he would be happy he gets to see the Kenocean every morning.”
