Current Position

Marketing and Social Media Intern through Big Shoulders Fund’s 2024 Summer Fellowship Program

After graduating from Carthage, Helen Marchant ’24 found a position as a marketing and social media intern through the Big Shoulders Fund’s Summer Fellowship Program. She works with Chicago Catholic schools’ marketing teams to create content and events, assists in communications, performs website updates, and manages their social media. Through her internship, Ms. Marchant is expanding her professional network and finding new job opportunities. 

The relationships Ms. Marchant formed at Carthage are very important to her and have helped her grow personally and professionally. She still maintains her connections with staff and faculty, her Pi Theta sisters, and members of the swim and dive team

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“What I’ve enjoyed most about my career so far is meeting new people. I’ve appreciated working with my managers and co-workers, who have taught me valuable skills in marketing and design. Their support and guidance have been instrumental in my growth.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“My experience at Carthage helped me develop my personal skills. Through hands-on projects, networking opportunities, and feedback from professors and peers, I improved my ability to interact confidently and effectively in professional settings.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of its strong community and supportive faculty, perfect for developing my skills. Given my United Kingdom origins, I was also excited about the chance to join the swim team and learn more about my American background whilst studying in the United States.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“At Carthage, I learned the importance of community through experiences like participating in a local sorority, which gives back to the community, and racing at swim meets with my supportive team.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Professors Ryan Miller and Laura Huaracha played a large part in my success in the arts at Carthage. Prof. Miller guided me through the final stages of my successful photography thesis show, offering valuable feedback and support. Prof. Huaracha has been a constant source of support, helping me develop my graphic design projects through the years.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“Carthage’s mission values helped me find the right path without judgment, build confidence, and foster a sense of unity with others. These values are reflected in my approach to personal and professional growth for the future.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“My favorite Carthage memories include the J-Term trip to Costa Rica, a cultural experience and an inspirational opportunity for my work. Carthage felt so much like a supportive family and helped me develop essential skills and confidence for my career.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Take full advantage of college opportunities by engaging with faculty and The Aspire Center for guidance and travel during J-Term. Stay curious and open-minded to continue learning and grow in your field.”
