Biography

Lewis Malczewski ’97 came to Carthage in 1992 to study athletic training and to play baseball. He received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science with an emphasis in athletic training, and he played in the Division III Baseball College World Series during his senior year, in which the team took fourth place.

After graduating, Mr. Malczewski wanted to get a teaching degree, so he returned to Carthage in 1997 to study to teach physical and health education while taking a position as a graduate assistant baseball coach for the College. He became licensed to teach in 2000.

Mr. Malczewski began his first teaching job for Kenosha Unified School District at McKinley Middle School as a physical and health education teacher. During that time, he started working on a Master of Science in Educational Administration and Supervision at UW-Milwaukee. He completed that coursework and was licensed to be a principal. He received his first principal job at St. Mary Central High School in Neenah, Wisconsin, close to his hometown. He has worked in Pre-K through 12th grade education in several districts, schools, and administrative roles. That work has allowed him to return to Carthage and work on supporting students on campus.

Mr. Malczewski believes in a teamed student-centered approach to helping students and their individual needs. He has a passion for working in the field of mental, social, emotional, and physical health. He thinks the holistic approach to supporting students allows the Center for Student Success members to use their combined education and skills to help every student be successful. He looks forward to learning, reflecting, growing, and leading at Carthage.
