“After graduation, I plan to get my master’s degree in music business. My next goal is to create a specialized music boarding school. It will be built on the basis of the specialized school from which I graduated in Ukraine. This school will mix academic and music programs at the same time. It will provide an opportunity for young musicians to professionally study their art at an early age.”
How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?
“I would very much like to note my piano teacher, Professor Wael Farouk. First of all, he is a very nice person, and he always helps me with any problems. As a teacher, he has brilliant skills in his field, and I am able to learn from a lot of his knowledge.”
“At the moment, my favorite classes are my piano lessons and symphonic literature.”
“Intellectual Foundations. Since I am an international student, English is not my first language. Because of this, there were difficulties in understanding some of the literature.”
“I received one scholarship from the College and the second one from a sponsor (Hazel Bothe Memorial Scholarship). These scholarships mean a lot to me. I am an international student from a large family. My parents and I don’t have enough money to cover my studies at the College, so these scholarships gave me the opportunity to get a bachelor’s degree which I am very grateful for.”
Favorite moments and memories at Carthage
“I cooked the Ukrainian national dish with some friends, and that helped me share my culture and have a lot of fun.”
Biggest surprise so far
“The stunning nature and lake view.”
What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“She would be very proud of me since I have been playing piano since I was 3 years old, and I have come a long way in this profession. And, in high school, I really wanted to study in a U.S. college, and now I am, which I am very happy about.”
Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?
“I am a student in the piano performance major. There can be a stereotype that music is not a profession, but in fact, it is very important work. If you pay attention to what is happening around us every day, you will definitely see that at least once a day we hear music. It is also worth noting that music is very similar to the specialty of a doctor. While a doctor heals physically, musicians heal spiritually. Therefore, no one should neglect this profession — it can change a lot in people’s life.”
