Charles R. Bowers III graduated from Carthage in 2003 with degrees in business administration and marketing, and currently works as a senior premier banker at BMO Harris Bank. He credits his liberal arts education with his ability to understand and work alongside people of all different upbringings and backgrounds.
As a banker, Mr. Bowers works with high net worth clients to ensure their short-term and long-term financial goals. He finds meaning in his work by helping his clients find solutions to their financial worries and giving them security in their finances.

What have you enjoyed most about your career?
“Some of the best client outcomes have been when I am able to find solutions to the financial needs of my clients that they may not have known existed. I can almost see the financial weight being lifted off their shoulders as I review their options with them. Knowing the client can sleep better at night is extremely rewarding.”
How did Carthage prepare you?
“Being involved in different organizations around Carthage exposed me to people from different backgrounds. The ability to find common ground helps keep the conversation going and creates a connection with the client that helps the planning process.”
Why did you choose Carthage?
“When I toured the campus it felt like Carthage was the place to take the next step in my education journey. The interactions that I had with students and faculty reaffirmed my decision that it was the right place for me.”
How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?
“In my line of work, I come across individuals from all socioeconomic, education, political, etc. backgrounds. The liberal arts curriculum expanded my understanding of the world around me and provided me with the skills to adapt to and understand how to work with people from all walks of life.”
