Career goal

“I hope to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“My first true Carthage professor experience was with Dr. David Brownholland. He is a very well spoken chemistry professor who was willing to help whenever anyone asked. He knew all of us and was even down for the occasional after class conversation about anything we wanted to talk about.”

Favorite class

“Though it was only a J-term class, Nursing Concepts was insightful and gave all of the nursing majors an idea of what it really means to be a nurse.”

Toughest class

Phage Hunters was by far the most difficult course for me so far. Coming into college not loving biology, this first semester class was challenging for a few reasons. It took a while before gaining my interest, and by then, I found myself playing catch up. The lab mixed with lecture style classroom was also an adjustment. Through working with my professor and working hard in general, I was still able to finish the class in very good standing.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“I work as an Resident Assistant for residence life on campus. It has definitely impacted my experience at Carthage for the better.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

“I loved getting the opportunity to meet everyone that I know now during my freshman year. Growing close to everyone while growing as a person in general played a huge part in all of my favorite Carthage moments.”

Biggest surprise so far

“I love how you cannot go to the Student Union without knowing just about every single person there.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Being a part of a growing program, you will get to experience the whole process of what it means to build the Nursing Program. The unique experiences paired with the very new equipment make for a killer program. Study hard, but remember to take breaks and enjoy yourself. Once you find a balance, you’ll find that nursing is a very enjoyable major. Make friends who will push you to be the best and encourage good habits.”
