Theatre, Social Work

“I’m just getting started in the theatre major, but the welcome I’ve received is amazing! I have never been so excited to begin a course of study until now.”

Sarah Ferri, ’20

Career goal

“I really want to work in drama therapy. My high school theatre director introduced me to it, and I fell in love. It’s the best combination for me because I get to work with my passion for helping people and theatre.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“This semester I’m taking Introduction to Acting with Professor Don Russell. I had been considering adding theatre as a major or minor before that, but after the first day of class with him, I knew I needed to get into the major. I auditioned for the department two weeks later. I look forward to this class all week!

Professor Anna Antaramian has been my professor for Western Heritage I and II, and I’ve never met a more supportive professor. I came in on an optional class period, and she sat me down to talk about my grades, the class, and personal things, and gave me wonderful advice. I’m so grateful to have gotten into her class again this semester!”

Favorite class

“My Intro to Acting class has been my favorite by far. It’s pushed me artistically and made me more outgoing and willing to take risks.”

Campus involvement

“I am a member of the cross country team.”

Toughest class

“Introduction to Psychology really challenged me. I had to learn to study completely differently in order to get through the course.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

“My favorite memories are meeting my best friend during orientation and spending homecoming with my friends and family who came up to visit!”

Favorite spot on campus

“I love going to sit on the rocks by the lake. I always go down there to relax and clear my mind.”

Biggest surprise so far

“The biggest surprise for me has been how much I’ve changed for the better. I used to be shy when meeting new people, and now I have no problem going up to someone and introducing myself or making small talk.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“I think my 8-year-old self would be really happy! I wanted to be an actress or a princess, so I think she’d be okay with one of the two!”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Be prepared to work hard, but enjoy it!”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because of the social work and theatre programs as well as the amazing view! I love being able to go by the lake whenever I want.”
