“Exercise has always been a part of my life, and I truly enjoy changing people’s lives through some sort of physical activity. I love to assist people to meet their fitness goals.”

Career goal

“I will be attending grad school to receive my master’s, and then, eventually, I aim to own my own fitness studio.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“The first professor who impacted me has to have been Professor Phineas Marr. I took his Christian Spirituality class, and I absolutely loved his energy and the way he taught. I will always remember at the end of the semester, he gave us all these little finger lights and told us to always let our light shine and it was so heartwarming. I will forever hold on to that little finger light.

My second professor that I loved was Professor Linda Greening. I took her lab and non-lab classes. I loved her sense of style. She would always come in with a huge smile and cute stylish outfits. She also truly cared. She was not just a professor for me. She was someone I could talk to outside of class and not judge me. She is a pure ray of sunshine.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class so far was Intro to Business and Technology. I ended up picking up a business administration minor because I knew I wanted to own my own business eventually. This class truly tested me, but I ended up learning so many things about the business aspect of all these different factors. I ended up loving it so much, I continued with this minor and received a certification in Excel.”

Campus involvement

“I am a group fitness instructor at the TARC. I teach two yoga classes, an ab blaster, and a HIIT cardio class called Fat Shred.”

Toughest class

“My hardest class has been Test and Measurements of Human Performance. The only reason it was hard was because I was finally diving into a core class for my major. I loved doing all the labs. It was very time-consuming, but I absolutely loved doing it.”

Internships or on-campus employment

“The summer of 2018, I worked at F45 in Glenview, Illinois. F45 is a one of the fastest growing functional training networks in the world. It is group exercise with a personal training twist to it. I worked as a coach, which meant that I was teaching my own classes and correcting form. I love working at F45, and I have had amazing opportunities meeting amazing people in my field.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“I presented my undergraduate research at the 2017 Celebration of Scholars. My study explained the effect of meditation on dominant leg balance. My research came out positive that meditating actually made a difference.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

“My favorite moment at Carthage has to be Homecoming Weekend. I love to see the campus filled with so many people, and everyone is always happy no matter what.”

Favorite spot on campus

“Any spot by the lake. That is my go to getaway from reality.”

Biggest surprise so far

“The amount of amazing people I have met and created such a great bond with. I have so many different friends who range from all across the board, and I love that I am so extroverted and willing to talk to anybody.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“I have always wanted to be in the health care field, so I am not surprised with the way I turned out. I have achieved way more than I thought I could. I never thought I would be a group fitness instructor, and now I know it is my calling.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“If you have a passion for changing lives, this major has infinite opportunities. But you must start putting yourself out there the minute you step foot on campus.”
