Career goal

“After graduation, I hope to start a successful career in the field of finance. I’m not sure what specific field I want to settle into, but I am interested in wealth management and investment banking.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“Professor Jan Owens really praised her students who worked hard and went above and beyond. That genuine recognition is something I will remember and will incorporate into my future with others.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class has been Spanish with Professor Mimi Yang. She tried very hard to immerse us into the Spanish culture throughout the entire class, which is challenging to do for a foreign language professor. I really enjoyed the class because every day included something new, and it differed greatly from most language classes.”

Campus involvement

“I am on the Carthage men’s volleyball team. Being an NCAA athlete has been very rewarding, and it enabled me to develop time management skills as well as lifelong friendships.”

Toughest class

Intellectual Foundations has been my toughest class so far. I was not used to writing papers on unconventional topics, and it was a tough challenge. Even so, it turned out to be a very beneficial class. I learned how to organize my thoughts and assemble them in an organized structure.”

Favorite moments and memories at Carthage

“Some of my best memories are of going to different formals and semi-formals with friends. It’s a great way to meet people and to dress up to look classy.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is the new beach volleyball court behind The Tower. You can catch me there any day when it is above 60 degrees.”

Biggest surprise so far

“The biggest surprise so far is how much different college is from high school. College is all about becoming a responsible adult and learning to manage your time.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“My 8-year-old self would not have thought this is where I would be. I never wanted to study business, nor play volleyball. In fact, I didn’t pick up a volleyball until I was 15 years old.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Go above and beyond from just going to class. Get involved and stay aware of the business world. Keep yourself updated, read articles, and find areas that interest you!”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because I knew it has a variety of very successful study programs, which was helpful to me because I was an undecided freshman. Along with that, I know many Carthage alumni who had a positive experience during and after attending Carthage. Lastly, I wanted to be an NCAA athlete.”
