“After graduating, I am planning on attending optometry school with the ultimate goal of becoming an eye doctor!”

“Although I am a science major, one of my favorite teachers is Professor Annette Duncan. She is one of the kindest, most accepting person I have ever met. Another one of my favorite professors is David Brownholland. He has been a huge help in my journey as a science major and navigating the pre-health requirements.”

“My favorite classes are currently Social Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. I really enjoy being in classes that allow for open discussion and interpretation of the material. Yes, some have a solid right or wrong answer, but it is fun to explore how to get to those answers and see how other people’s experiences shape their answers.”

“I am currently involved in Alpha Chi Omega (social sorority), the National Society of Leadership & Success (NSLS), Pre-health Club, Psychology Club, and on-campus employment. These definitely keep me busy! I currently hold an executive board position in my sorority, in which I organize fundraising and awareness events about domestic violence.”

“So far my, toughest class is Biochemistry. It is an upper-level course and challenges me to apply concepts from previous classes as well as gaining a more in-depth knowledge of general concepts.”

“One of my favorite things each year is being an orientation leader for the incoming freshmen! It is a fun week of getting to know people and helping new students feel at home! Another one of my favorite memories is working for the Admissions Office over the summer!”

“Currently, my favorite spot on campus is sitting in the bay window in my bedroom in The Tower Residence Hall. My room faces the campus side, so I love to people watch!”

“Coming to college, I was very nervous about what people would think of me, especially since these are not the same people I have grown up with my entire life. The biggest surprise to me was that no one really cares to judge you based on what you look like, how you grew up, what your major is, etc. It’s a comforting feeling knowing that most people are open to having friends who are different than they are.”

“When I was eight, I was involved in Girl Scouts. A big part of being a girl scout is volunteering and helping those around you. I feel that I still hold those two things very close to my heart with service work through my sorority and my goals of pursuing a career in the medical field.”

“My advice would be that just because you are a science major does not limit your interests! Join clubs, go to events that pique your interest, and have fun with your college experience.”

“When I toured Carthage my senior year of high school, I had the wonderful opportunity of speaking with Prof. Brownholland about how the premedical concentration at Carthage works, and it really sparked my interest! I’ve known since I was young that the medical field was the right place for me, so finding a school that had a great support system and encouraging faculty was very important to me.”
