Alpha Mu Gamma (A.M.G.) is the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society. We are dedicated to promoting languages studies, cultural events, and community outreach. There are many scholarships offered through A.M.G., and being active in Alpha Mu Gamma it is a great networking tool.
Thursdays at 4 p.m. in Lentz Hall room 222
What are some of your org's major events and activities?
Each year, we host an initiation for new members. We attend the National Alpha Mu Gamma Conference, which will be in New York City next year. We also host an event for National Foreign Language week, which is a week where all languages are celebrated and embraced. We’ve held game nights, movie showings, and gone on field trips. Members vote each year on what the event will be. Periodically, we sponsor other smaller events on campus throughout the semester, such as a Family Fun Night.
Why should people join this organization?
We are here to celebrate all foreign languages, honor those who excel at them, and seek to encourage others to expand their cultural knowledge. There are also added benefits to joining our organization, such as scholarships that could aid in your foreign language studies. By joining A.M.G., you become a member for life. Cords at graduation, a certificate, a pin, and a T-shirt have all been part of the total $40 one time fee. Membership in A.M.G is great way to meet others that are learning your same language or another language you may be interested in.
Who can join?
We invite all students to apply and you do not need to have a language major or minor to qualify. The requirements for full student membership include:
- Two semesters of college completed
- Two grades of “A” (i.e. A-, A, A+) in college-level foreign language courses
- Overall GPA of 3.0
- One time National dues of $25. One time Carthage Chapter dues of $15
