Alpha Mu Gamma is the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society. We are dedicated to promoting languages studies, cultural events, and community outreach. There are many scholarships offered through AMG, and it is a great networking tool.
Tuesdays in LH 424.
What are some of your org's major events and activities?
Each year we put on an initiation for new members. We also go to the National Alpha Mu Gamma Conference, which will be in Tennessee this year, and the National Foreign Language week, which is a week where all languages are celebrated and embraced. We sponsor other smaller events on campus as well periodically throughout the semester.
Why should people join this organization?
We are here to celebrate all foreign languages and seek to encourage others to expand their cultural knowledge. There are also added benefits to joining our organization, such as scholarships that could aid in your foreign language studies. This is also a great way to meet others that are learning your same language, or another language you may be interested in.
Who can join?
We invite all students to apply and you do not need to have a language major or minor to qualify. The requirements for full student membership include:
- Two semesters of college completed
- Two grades of “A” (i.e. A-, A, A+) in college-level foreign language courses
- Overall GPA of 3.0
- One time National dues of $25. One time Carthage Chapter dues of $15
