Carthage’s Geo Club is a notably vibrant and active student club on campus. Its mission is to increase interest in Carthage’s Geospatial Sciences Department, and to spread awareness of geography. Members do not need to be geoscience or geographic information science majors; they need only have an interest in learning about geography. The club meets weekly. Activities include camping and geocaching trips; excursions to geographical points of interest such as Grand Canyon National Park, Chicago and Milwaukee; and community service activities like Passport to Science and Carthage Family Fun Night. The Geo Club also organizes events to commemorate Geography Awareness Week, including demonstrations and GPS “treasure hunting” for GIS Day.
