Schedule of Events

Friday, May 3

Students who were previously undecided in their college career paths will celebrate a significant milestone — declaring a major. Students and their families will meet with student leaders and make personal connections with faculty members in the different departments.

Saturday, May 4

Nursing Pinning Ceremony

10-11 a.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
A pinning ceremony is a way to welcome new nurses into the profession. This tradition traces back to the 12th century. The wearing of the pin represents the right and readiness to serve others and the assumption of the responsibility to provide excellent care. Each nursing graduate will be pinned with the Carthage pin, with invited guests welcome to share in the tradition. This event will be livestreamed for those who can’t attend in person.

Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony

11:30 a.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
The newest members of the Carthage chapter of Alpha Chi will be inducted during the Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony. Alpha Chi is a National Honor Scholarship Society active on more than 300 college and university campuses nationwide. Students inducted into Alpha Chi are in the top 10 percent of the graduating senior class.

Celebration of Scholars Poster Exhibition

1-3 p.m., TARC Field House
Carthage students and faculty will present their works of scholarship, research, and creativity at the 2024 Celebration of Scholars Exhibition. Each presenter or group of presenters will have an abstract and poster, and will be available to talk about their project during the event.

Student Awards Ceremony

3:30-4:30 p.m., Todd Wehr Center Jockey Club Rooms
The Student Award Ceremony — always an important part of the Celebration of Scholars — recognizes student achievements in leadership, campus involvement, service, and academics. Awards include the Student Leadership Awards and Intellectual Foundations Scholarships. The recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Senior Award will also be announced.

Multicultural Celebration Ceremony and Reception

Ceremony — 5-6 p.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
Reception — 6-7:30 p.m., Hedberg Library
RSVP to attend
The Office of Equity and Inclusion collaborates with individuals from numerous departments to coordinate culturally-based graduate celebration ceremonies that complement Carthage’s Commencement ceremonies. The Multicultural Celebration does not replace the formal graduation Commencement ceremonies. The multicultural graduation event acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of Carthage students of racially and ethnically underrepresented groups and LGBTQIA+ identities. This event will be livestreamed for those who can’t attend in person.

The Embers

7-8:30 p.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
Reception to follow in Hedberg Library
Created in 2022, The Embers awards is a formal-attire event open to student-athletes, Carthage athletics staff, and special guests. Named after Carthage’s mascot, The Embers is styled after major awards ceremonies, such as the Oscars and The ESPYs, complete with awards such as Comeback of the Year, Moment of the Year, and Upset of the Year, as well as recognition of outstanding individual academic and athletic accomplishments. Award candidates are determined by nominations from Carthage’s coaching staff, who then casts preliminary votes to narrow each award down to finalists. Then each award is voted on by both coaches and student-athletes, with a combined vote determining the winner of each award.

Tuesday, May 7

The Carthage Honors Program is for exceptional students who want to make the most of their liberal arts education.
