Carthage College Faculty Meeting Minutes
September 4, 2009
Judith Schaumberg called the meeting to order at 8:48 a.m.
Harvard Stephens delivered the invocation.
Amy Haines’ appointment as Faculty Secretary was announced.
Chris von Dehsen will continue as Parliamentarian.
The minutes of May 7, 2009 were approved as posted.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW COLLEAGUES
New staff and colleagues were introduced.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
President Campbell welcomed new colleagues, and gave brief statements on the state of the College, the endowment, and financial aid.
VICE PRESIDENT FOR ENROLLMENT AND STUDENT LIFE
Brad Andrews presented information on enrollment statistics.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Aaron Trautwein and Steve Udry, FEC Co-Chairs, introduced the members of FEC, then encouraged all to attend the retreat.
Aaron asked that all faculty check committee rosters, elect chairs, and provide information for new strategic goals.
Greg Baer reported a successful new full-time faculty orientation. Two Faculty Learning Communities (FLC’s) have begun meeting. More FLC’s will be formed in the spring for the next academic year. Greg thanked all involved in Tech Day. Dennis Munk will join Greg in spring on CADRE.
Aaron Trautwein: The United Way campaign will begin in two weeks.
John Stewig: The Center for Children’s Literature will bring authors Laura Numeroff and Rickard Peck to Carthage.
Ingrid Tiegel: Reminded all that the entrance for New Student Convocation is at the bottom of the hill.
