Carthage College Faculty Meeting Minutes
April 4, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Carthage Provost Dr. Julio Rivera at 4:10 p.m.
The Invocation was given by Chris von Dehsen.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of Aug. 31, 2012 were approved with a correction. (Leonard Schulze’s Senate term was a half-year sabbatical replacement).
ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW TENURED FACULTY — Julio Rivera
Newly tenured faculty includes Deana Byrnes, Martin McClendon, Patricia Rieman, Deborah Tobiason, and Eric Tou. Congratulations to you all.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Mr. Woodard extended an invitation to his Inauguration during Honors Weekend, Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2:30.
ACADEMIC SENATE — Steve Udry, Academic Senate Co-Chair
The voting on a new Time Schedule Option 2 (215), was favored over Option 1 (124), and the current schedule (117). The results of this advisory vote have been forwarded to the Provost’s office. The Senate Elections are coming in May. The election may return to the FEC-style survey-vote winnowing process.
ACCREDITATION REPORT — Greg Baer, CADRE
Working groups are actively collecting data. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) visit (by liaison Tim Gallimore) is coming in advance of the 2014 review. One-hundred faculty took the recent CADRE workload survey whose results will eventually be shared with HLC and the faculty. A request was made to submit assessment reports. The Provost and Assessment Director, Dana Garrigan, can help if you get stalled.
NEXT YEAR’S AGENDA — Steve Udry and Julio Rivera, Academic Senate Co-Chairs
The “Now-Soon-Later” survey results will continue to guide the faculty agenda. Restructuring academic administration (division/department/program) and comprehensive faculty workload were discussed.
LIS — Todd Kelley, Vice President for Library and Information Services
The LIS staff was excited to share their plans about a virtual e-conference regarding the future of libraries. The dates of July 1 – August 19 were given.
Several announcements were made.
