Virtual Celebration of Scholars to be held May 6-8! 

Don’t miss online presentations, a Q & A with presenters, and the announcement of our 2020 Distinguished Senior Award recipient. All are invited to join in recognizing the achievements of our students and faculty.

Online Exhibition of Research, Scholarship, and Creativity

May 6-8

The 2020 Celebration of Scholars logo, designed by Maria Isley '19.More than 70 Carthage students and faculty will present their works of scholarship, research, and creativity at the 2020 Celebration of Scholars Online Exhibition. Each presenter or group of presenters will have an online abstract, as well as a recorded talk available for viewing. There will be opportunities to engage with presenters through live Zoom sessions between 4 and 6 p.m. all three days.

Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony

May 6 — Noon

The newest members of the Carthage College chapter of Alpha Chi will be inducted at noon. Alpha Chi is a National Honor Scholarship Society active on more than 300 college and university campuses nationwide. Students inducted into Alpha Chi are in the top 10 percent of the graduating senior class. The virtual induction ceremony will be presented as a video featuring Carthage President John Swallow and Senior Associate Provost David Steege.

Student Award Ceremony

May 8 — Noon

The Student Award Ceremony — always an important part of Celebration of Scholars — will be presented at noon on Friday, May 8. This ceremony recognizes student achievements in leadership, campus involvement, service, and academics. Awards include the Student Leadership Awards, Western Heritage Scholarships, and Global Heritage Prize. The recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Senior Award will also be announced.

The virtual ceremony will be presented as a video featuring Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Kimberlie Goldsberry, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Equity and Inclusion Roger Moreano,  Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Involvement Liz Snider, Provost David Timmerman, and Theatre Professor Neil Scharnick.

How to Participate

The Virtual Celebration of Scholars will be live starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 6. Look in Wednesday’s Bridge email or visit the Carthage College homepage for a link to the website.
