Women and Gender Studies
Women’s and Gender Studies at Carthage is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the roles that women, race, gender, and ethnicity play in an increasingly more diverse global world. The program introduces students to the ways in which the study of women and gender has transformed other disciplines like history, sociology, English, religion, political science, philosophy, social work, and the sciences. Students examine how these other disciplines address gender, race, and ethnicity in society and human history.
Through Women and Gender Studies, students are exposed to a new body of knowledge that asks them to examine unexamined attitudes shaping today’s global society.
The minor promotes critical thinking and effective communication skills. It is also a strong selling point in an age where companies increasingly require their employees to be conversant on issues relating to diversity and tolerance, and for any career demanding synthetic and creative, critical thinking skills.
