The Writing Center is happy to serve students in its own Masters programs as well as students in the Loyola Masters of Social Work Program, which is housed at Carthage College. We recognize that these students have unique needs (such as being pressed for time, needing to learn or refresh their knowledge in formal academic writing, and not being as connected to the campus and campus news as are our undergraduate students.).
Because we strive to assist our graduate students as they deal with these unique challenges, the Writing Center’s tutor training program includes sessions that give the tutors the skills they need to work with Adult Learners, both in our undergraduate and graduate programs. We also keep the preferred resources for these programs in the Writing Center, including the most recent instruction book for the M Ed program and the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association for the Loyola Maters of Social Work program.
Although the Writing Center highly encourages in-person tutoring sessions, we realize that graduate students’ time on campus may be very limited. Therefore, the center has an online option for students in Masters programs offered by Carthage, and a slightly different online option for Loyola Masters of Social Work students. The links to directions for utilizing these online options, as well as a link to the electronic M Ed instruction book follow:
